SACRAMENTO – The Legislature late Sunday approved a bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to improve horse racing safety across California and build on reforms adopted last year.

“We must do everything possible to make horse racing safer for animals and jockeys, and this bill takes another step in that direction,” Sen. Dodd said. “I thank the Legislature for approving my plan, which will help ensure track conditions are right and horses are fit before they hit the starting gate.”

Sacramento, Calif.- Yesterday, the California State Assembly inexplicably placed SB 1130, the “Broadband for All” bill, on its inactive file, killing the bill with no notice or explanation to the more than 50 organizations that support the measure, including rural and urban organizations, AARP, League of Cities and various small and large school districts.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Legislature today passed a bill by Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that will allow the City of Rosemead to have access to funds for local infrastructure projects that have been unavailable. It now heads to the governor's desk. 

Senate Bill 1307 would allow the City of Rosemead to utilize funding established through the 1919 Lighting District funds for public benefits allowed under 1972 Landscape and Lighting Act.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Legislature today passed a bill by Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that will ensure domestic violence providers are able to keep services accessible amid COVID-19 and in the future.

Senate Bill 1276 will remove the 10 percent cash or in-kind matching requirement for state grants awarded to domestic violence programs that provide essential resources. In addition to state requirements, domestic violence service providers must also meet match fund requirements for federal funding sources.

The California Legislature has approved Sen. Skinner’s SB 972, the Corporate Disclosure Act, which, if signed into law, will for the first time require large corporations to disclose how much they pay California in state taxes and what state tax credits they receive.

Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 793 today, making California the leader in state policy on sales of flavored tobacco products. The new law, which imposes the toughest state restrictions in the country thus far, takes effect on January 1, 2021. The governor’s signature came just a few hours after the Senate’s 34-0 vote to pass the legislation. The Assembly voted 58-1 on Monday..
