SACRAMENTO, CA — The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a plan today that will establish a health authority in Sacramento County to improve oversight of quality, cost and access to Medi-Cal services.

Gonzalez (D- Long Beach) was appointed Chair of the California State Senate Transportation Committee by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), becoming the first Latina in over 50 years to be appointed to this role in the California Senate.

Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins named Senator Josh Becker to four Senate committees today. The Peninsula Democrat is now a member of the Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee, the Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee, the Governmental Organization Committee and the Transportation Committee.

Sacramento, Calif. — State Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) has been named Chair of the State Senate’s Special Committee on Pandemic Emergency Response as one of his committee assignments for the 2020-21 legislative session.

“I look forward to serving as Chair of the Special Committee on Pandemic Emergency Response to help California work through and ultimately recover fully from these challenging times,” said Senator Newman.

Senator Newman’s other assignments for the 2020-21 legislative session include the following legislative committees:

President pro Tempore of the California Senate, Toni Atkins, today announced that Senator Dave Cortese would serve as Chair of the Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee. Of the 23 committees in the California Senate, the Labor Committee is tasked with analyzing bills that affect workers, ranging from issues such as workers’ safety, compensation, insurance, and unemployment as well as bills relating to public employees.

SACRAMENTO — Today, Senator Tom Umberg (D - Orange County) was named Chair of the California State Senate Judiciary Committee by State Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins. Senator Umberg has served as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee since 2018. Prior to being appointed as Chair of Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Umberg chaired the Senate Elections and Constitutional Amendments Committee.

Sacramento, CA – California’s chief elections officer published his official Statement of Vote on December 11, confirming an all-time record number of votes cast and especially high voter turnout and engagement, aided by Senator Allen's Voter’s Choice Act of 2016 (VCA). The VCA enabled county elections officials to implement more options for how and where to vote in the November 3 election, allowing every registered voter to receive a vote-by-mail ballot and switching neighborhood polling places to better-equipped vote centers.
