New Bill Helps Renters and Property Owners Impacted by COVID-19

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Anna M. Caballero (D – Salinas) joined with Senator Lena Gonzalez (D – Long Beach), and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D – Laguna Beach) to introduce Senate Bill 1410 to create the COD-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The bill would authorize the California Department Housing and Community Development to administer a program that provides financial relief for California tenants that cannot pay rent because of financial hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Virtual policy briefing: New homelessness prevention research for domestic violence survivors

Sacramento, CA – On May 7 at 3 p.m., Senator Susan Rubio, Blue Shield of California Foundation and the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (the Partnership) will convene a virtual policy briefing on an innovative homelessness prevention model, Domestic Violence Housing First (DVHF). Domestic violence is a significant driver of homelessness in California. In 2018, 10 percent of people experiencing homelessness during the one-night Point In Time count reported being victims of domestic violence.

Sacramento, Calif.- Today, California State Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D- Long Beach) introduced Senate Bill (SB) 1410 to help both renters and rental property owners endure the financial hardships brought on by COVID-19. SB 1410, The COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program, would provide direct rental payment relief to renters who demonstrate an inability to pay rent due to the pandemic, as well as landlords who agree to specified terms, such as forgoing rent increases and late charges.
