SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) issued the following statement following the Legislative Analyst Office’s annual report on California’s fiscal outlook:

ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Senator Tom Umberg (D – Orange County), Chairman of the State Senate Select Committee on the Growing Impact of Artificial Intelligence in California, will convene a hearing on November 20, 2019 on “The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Law Enforcement Context.” The hearing will conduct a broad overview on the state of artificial intelligence, including policy implications and effects on law enforcement.

State Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, released the following statement on two rulings today by California’s Fourth Appellate District Court, upholding the constitutionality of her 2018 legislation, Senate Bill 1437:

SAN DIEGO – California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) this week will give introductory remarks at a Little Hoover Commission hearing to examine the state’s role in identifying and combating labor trafficking. 

The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the San Diego Central Library, 330 Park Blvd. in San Diego’s East Village. It will take place in the Shiley Special Event Suite. The public and the press are encouraged to attend.

Sacramento, CA – As residents in portions of 22 counties across Northern California prepare for their fifth widespread Public Safety Power Shutoff in the past 45 days, Senator McGuire and the Senate Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee held a special hearing to look at what actions can be taken to protect Californians. SACRAMENTO, CA – State Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), representing the 14th Senate District in California, which includes cities in Fresno, Kern, Kings and Tulare counties, launched the inaugural 2019 Hurtado Holiday Baby Formula and Infant Nutrition Drive, in partnership with Central California Food Bank and the California Association of Food Banks. The drive addresses the need to tackle the southern Central Valley’s child food insecurity rate, which currently sits at almost 25 percent in Fresno, Tulare and Kern counties.

SONOMA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will host a town hall meeting Nov. 25 in Sonoma to discuss continued concern over wildfire safety and recent widespread electric power shutoffs by Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

“We must keep our communities safe, and the way PG&E has responded is unacceptable,” said Sen. Dodd. “I’m calling for fundamental change to the governance, control and oversight of the troubled utility.”
