Legislature Approves Sen. Dodd’s Power Shutoff Protection Bill

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature today approved a wildfire-inspired proposal from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would help low-income people who rely on life-support equipment to receive backup power during electric transmission line de-energization.

“Clearly, we must protect vulnerable people who rely on critical-care equipment as climate change drives up our fire risk,” Sen. Dodd said. “My bill says that before utilities can shut off the power to prevent an inferno, they must develop plans to ensure the health and safety of those who are most defenseless.”

California Legislature Approves SB 330, “Housing Crisis Act of 2019”

The California Legislature has approved Senate Bill 330, the Housing Crisis Act of 2019, by Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley. SB 330 will accelerate housing construction in California by cutting the time it takes to obtain building permits, limiting fees on housing, and barring local governments from reducing the number of homes that can be built.

Gov. Newsom Signs SB 234, the “Keeping Kids Close to Home Act”

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law Senate Bill 234, the “Keeping Kids Close to Home Act,” by state Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley. SB 234 will expand childcare opportunities for California families and reduce costs and red tape for home childcare providers statewide.

“Family childcare homes are an accessible and affordable way to provide the care our children need,” Sen. Skinner said. “But neighborhood childcare providers have increasingly been pushed out by rising costs and onerous licensing requirements. SB 234 eases the permit process for family childcare homes.”

Governor Signs Sen. Dodd’s Skyline Wilderness Park Bill

SACRAMENTO –Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today his legislation allowing Napa County to negotiate with the state to buy the 850-acre Skyline Wilderness Park has been signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

If Napa County acquires the prime property with its popular hiking trails and views of the Bay Area, Senate Bill 20 also mandates that it is used for parkland or open space only.

Legislature Approves Sen. Dodd’s Glass Recycling Bill

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today that the Legislature has approved his proposal that would remove barriers to glass recycling.

“This is a commonsense measure that will reduce the amount of glass that goes into our waste stream, ultimately cutting greenhouse gas emissions,” Sen. Dodd said. “Thanks to my colleagues in the Legislature for recognizing the value of taking this important step, which will help us achieve our landfill reduction goals.”

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate today passed important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will protect patient safety and reinforce nurse staffing ratio requirements.  Following approval by the Legislature, Senate Bill 227 now heads to the Governor for consideration.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Melissa Hurtado’s (D-Sanger) legislation, SB 436, which would help prevent child abuse and neglect, is headed to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk. The bill, which received bi-partisan support, will formalize Family Resource Centers (FRC) as a key delivery network of services and as conduits to strengthening families via family-centered, community-based and culturally sensitive services that include cross-system collaboration.
