(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) issued the following statement about the Governor’s signing his Senate Bill (SB) 645, which limits the timeframe victims of mesothelioma or silicosis may be deposed by defendants.

“I am pleased to see that Governor Newsom shares my commitment to protect victims of mesothelioma and silicosis during the deposition process,” said Senator Monning.  “Without these time limits, marathon depositions will continue to inflict undue emotional and physical harm on these victims during their final days of life.”

SACRAMENTO – The state Assembly today overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan bill by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to protect consumers with mortgages from abusive debt collection tactics.  SB 187 now goes to Governor Newsom for his consideration.

SACRAMENTO – The Legislature today approved a bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would eliminate the confusion and delays caused by uninformed, out-of-state or multiple insurance adjusters during the 2017 North Bay wildfires.

Senate Bill 240 requires the California Department of Insurance to produce information on the most significant state insurance laws related to disasters and set training standards for agents handling catastrophic events. It also mandates that insurers provide a single point of contact for customers to make processing claims easier.

The Senate today passed Jojo’s Act, the bill by Senator Jerry Hill that would help students living with severe disabilities who rely on medicinal cannabis and need to take their medication during the school day. Senate Bill 223 now heads to the governor’s desk for consideration.
