DAVIS – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today he will host a public forum Aug. 22 in Davis to address important issues facing seniors and to give information about benefits and services.

Sen. Dodd will moderate a panel of experts including Yolo County officials and senior advocates as they discuss healthcare, fraud prevention and other topics affecting elder communities. After the presentations, Sen. Dodd will invite questions from the audience.

State Senator Jerry Hill, as chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Gas, Electric and Transportation Safety, will hold a hearing Wednesday on electric utility de-energization, better known as Public Safety Power Shutoffs. The hearing, entitled “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Preparing for Electric Utility De-Energization,” will examine what utilities and the California Public Utilities Commission are doing to ensure that de-energization is used wisely as a strategy to prevent wildfires.

State and Del Norte Schools partner to replace aging fire alarms

Sacramento, CA – Seven schools in Del Norte County with aging fire alarms are getting brand new, upgraded fire alarm systems, paid in part by the State of California.

Last year, Senator Mike McGuire met with a team from Del Norte County Schools, led by Superintendent Jeff Harris, and officials from the State Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) to kick off conversations about the need for state funding focused on critical upgrades needed at Del Norte County Schools.

Senator Wiener’s Legislation to Streamline Navigation Center Permitting Adopted as Part of State Budget

San Francisco –  Senator Scott Wiener's (D-San Francisco) legislation to streamline the approval of navigation centers was signed into law last week by Governor Gavin Newsom, as part of AB 101, a budget trailer bill. Previously part of Senate Bill 48, this policy aims to ensure that homeless individuals and families throughout California have reasonable access to shelter, including navigation centers. Californians currently have inconsistent access to navigation centers and shelter.
