Coalition of Legislators, Key Transit Stakeholders Present Urgent Call for Public Transit Funding

Los Angeles, CA – State Senator Ben Allen and Assemblymembers Adrin Nazarian and Richard Bloom joined officials from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) as well as key regional transit advocates to call for over $900 million annually for critically needed public transit funding in California.  Hundreds of millions of dollars would flow to L.A. County to help expand public transit options and maintain the existing transit system in a state of good repair.

State Senate Honors Juan Felipe Herrera, U.S. Poet Laureate

Sacramento, CA – Today, Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) and the California State Senate paid tribute to the newly appointed U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera.  At a special ceremony on the Senate Floor, Mr. Herrera was introduced by Senator Allen, the chair of the Joint Committee on the Arts, and recited two of his original poems.

Vaccine Legislation Passes Senate Education Committee on Bipartisan Vote

April 22, 2015

SACRAMENTO – Senate Bill 277, authored by Dr. Richard Pan (D – Sacramento), and Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) to abolish the personal belief exemption that currently allows parents to opt out of vaccinating their children prior to school enrollment passed the Senate Education Committee on a 7 – 2 vote today.

Dr. Pan and Senator Allen presented amendments that protect every student’s right to be safe at school while preserving every student’s right to an education.
