State Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, today announced that she will introduce new legislation to strengthen California’s laws that protect those who access abortion or gender-affirming care. The bill, which is to be introduced Monday, Dec. 5, the first day of the new legislative session, would add protections for people who come to California seeking refuge from prosecution by other states that have criminalized abortions or health care that supports and affirms an individual’s gender identity.

Governor Gavin Newsom today ensured that California is the national leader for abortion and reproductive rights by signing the Legislative Women’s Caucus’ Reproductive Justice bill package. The Reproductive Justice package includes legislation that legally protects patients and providers, expands the reproductive health care workforce, and ensures access to affordable care for low-income residents and communities of color.

Governor Gavin Newsom today joined the California Legislative Women’s Caucus to sign legislation aimed at further protecting and advancing the rights and opportunities for women and working families in California, leading with an equity lens. The bills signed today included six of the eight bills sent to the Governor for his signature.

State Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, today introduced new legislation that would require gun owners to obtain liability insurance for the negligent or accidental use of their firearms. If enacted, SB 505 would make California the first state in the nation to adopt such legislation.
