Greater Voting Power Proposed for UC Students

SACRAMENTO – Senator Steve Glazer, D-Contra Costa, today unveiled the Senate Constitutional Amendment 5 to strengthen the influence of students on the University of California (UC) Board of Regents by adding a second voting student member to the Board.

Currently, the UC Board of Regents is composed of 26 members, but only one voting student regent, selected by the Board, represents the students for a one-year term. A second non-voting student regent also serves on the Board.

Glazer Expands District Office To Help Residents During Pandemic

ORINDA – Senator Steve Glazer, D-Contra Costa, announced today that he has added a district representative to his staff.

Alexia Lopez, a lifelong Contra Costa County resident, will work in Senator Glazer’s district offices in Antioch and Orinda. Lopez will graduate this spring from San Jose State University with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Legal Studies.

BART Proposed Labor Contract Premature and a Big Mistake

Contra Costa County – On Thanksgiving eve, BART announced a tentative labor contract with their represented groups, after secret negotiations were held during BART Directors’ campaign elections. The agreement is scheduled to be acted upon at their Thursday meeting (December 3).

SENATOR GLAZER CALLS ON BART MANAGEMENT TO COOPERATE WITH INSPECTOR GENERAL

ORINDA – Senator Steve Glazer, D-Contra Costa, on Friday called on BART’s management and board to embrace the transit district’s first Inspector General’s efforts to look for waste, fraud and abuse in the sprawling agency.

In her report, released this week, Inspector General Harriet Richardson said that BART management is blocking her from doing a “risk assessment” of their various offices, which she said she would use to guide her inquiries.

Glazer to Discuss Violent Parties at Air BnBs

SACRAMENTO – Senator Steve Glazer will hold a press availability Friday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. to urge passage of his legislation to raise fines for short-term rental abuses. He will also discuss Air BnB’s unprecedented decision to pursue legal claims against one of their short term rental guests. In the last few weeks, there have been short-term rental abuses in Los Angeles and Northern California, including a party at a Sacramento-area rental earlier this month where three people were shot after violence erupted at the gathering.

Recently, I have watched with anger as top officials in this country appealed to anti-Asian sentiments to try to win favor or cast aspersions; a disgraceful practice from California and American history.

Short Term Rental Bill OKd by Senate

June 22, 2020

SACRAMENTO – The Senate on Monday approved Senator Steve Glazer’s bill to deter people from taking advantage of short-term rentals to host disruptive and unsafe house parties. A mass shooting in Orinda that killed five and injured four others at a party hosted at an AirBnB rental last Halloween sparked the legislation.

The bill, SB 1049, was approved on a bipartisan vote, 32-7, and moves to the Assembly.

17 Bay Area Caucus Members Urge Governor, Legislative Leaders to Provide Funding to Acquire N3 Ranch

SACRAMENTO – Senators Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, Steve Glazer, D-Orinda, and 15 other Bay Area legislators on Wednesday urged Gov. Gavin Newsom and legislative leaders to provide funding to help acquire the N3 Ranch in Alameda, Santa Clara, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties and preserve it as public parkland.

“This once-in-a-generation opportunity would help create one of the largest parks in California, protect a crucial watershed, fight climate change and provide accessible backcountry wilderness to millions of Californians,” Senator Wieckowski said.
