OC Food Bank to Receive $1.7 Million in Funding for Orange County Diaper Bank

The cost of diapers is taxing on vulnerable young families, especially those dealing with poverty. Diaper Banks are beginning to emerge in progressive communities to help address that need.  Outside of food requests, diapers are probably another one of the biggest requests Food Banks receive.  Last year, four Food Banks in California successfully received State funding to establish Diaper Banks in their communities.

Senator Thomas J. Umberg’s Homelessness Relief Plan for Motel Conversion Passes the Senate Floor

SACRAMENTO – (Sacramento) – Today, Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D – Santa Ana) has moved his Senate Bill 450 (SB 450) through the California State Senate. SB 450 streamlines the process of converting motels into supportive and transitional housing. The bill would exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) projects related to the conversion of a motel into supportive or transitional housing.

SACRAMENTO – (Sacramento) – Today, Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D – Santa Ana) addressed the California State Senate with a call to commemorate Black April. “Black April” is the term used to refer to the April 30 anniversary of the fall of Saigon, in 1975. Senator Umberg spoke to honor those that lost their lives in the Vietnam War; including American, South Vietnamese, allied veterans of the war, and the refugees that fled towards American shores in search of freedom.
