State Assembly approves Wolk resource measures

(SACRAMENTO, CA)– The State Assembly voted yesterday to approve two natural resources measures by Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis), including Senate Bill 1386 to promote the protection and management of natural and working lands as part of California’s ongoing efforts to meet its climate change goals.

SACRAMENTO–Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed into law legislation by State Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to protect students by allowing the involuntary transfer of pupils convicted of violent crimes such as felony battery, rape, kidnapping and attempted murder.

Dr. Pan’s Life-Saving Newborn Screening Bill Passes State Assembly

SACRAMENTO – A bill authored by Dr. Richard Pan to require the Department of Public Health to expand the existing newborn screening program to include any condition that has been adopted by the federal Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP), passed the State Assembly.

Leno Bill Limiting Room Confinement in Juvenile Facilities Approved by the Assembly

Senator Mark Leno’s (D- San Francisco) bill to limit the use of room confinement in juvenile facilities was approved by the State Assembly today and now heads to the Senate for concurrence before reaching the Governor’s desk. Senate Bill 1143 states that room confinement can only be used after less restrictive options have been tried and bans its use for the purposes of punishment, coercion, convenience or retaliation.

Sen. Leno’s Bill to Prevent Wrongful Incarceration Passes Assembly

August 18, 2016

Senator Mark Leno’s (D-San Francisco) bill to establish a fair standard for proving one’s innocence in California has passed the State Assembly. SB 1134 brings California’s innocence standard in line with 43 other states.
“The wrongful incarceration of an innocent citizen is one of the greatest injustices society can perpetuate,” said Senator Leno. “SB 1134 will provide meaningful relief to innocent people who have new evidence showing their convictions should be reversed.”
