Bill to Restore Eelgrass and Mitigate Harmful Effects of Carbon Dioxide Passes Assembly Committee

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senate Bill (SB) 1363, authored by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel), passed out of the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources late yesterday afternoon.  The bill requires the Ocean Protection Council (OPC), in coordination with the State Coastal Conservancy (SCC), to establish a program to restore eelgrass in order to mitigate the impacts of global warming on the ocean and on California’s coastal plant and animal species.

Staff report recommended city not approve dirty exports

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Loni Hancock, D-Oakland, issued the following statement after today’s vote by the Oakland City Council on a pending coal-export terminal in West Oakland:

 “Kudos to the Oakland City Council for having the courage to do what’s right to help protect the health and long-term environmental goals California has worked so hard to achieve.”

Hancock is author of a package of bills written to halt the coal terminal and others like it.

Authored by Senator Ed Hernandez, O.D. (D-West Covina) and approved by a vote of 12-4, SB 1010 provides information on drug prices, a first step toward more affordable and accessible prescription drugs for Californians.
