NAPA – In the five years since record wildfires caused the tragic loss of life and property in the North Bay, Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, has remained focused on addressing the climate-worsened threat by enacting commonsense legislation to help prevent future infernos, harden the electric utility grid and increase access and affordability of insurance. 

SACRAMENTO - Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 922. It will become law on January 1, 2023. SB 922 extends and improves upon Senator Wiener’s previous legislation (SB 288, 2020) to expedite bike, pedestrian, light rail, and rapid bus projects by exempting these environmentally sustainable projects from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). SB 922 will accelerate approval of sustainable, climate-friendly transportation projects.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to impose stronger accountability on health plans by significantly increasing fines for illegal denial of health insurance coverage. Senate Bill 858, the Health Plan Accountability Act, updates and increases the penalty amount tenfold for health plans that violate state law in denying or delaying timely access to care. This law will take effect on January 1, 2023.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Senator Scott Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1228, the Genetic Privacy for Sexual Assault Victims Act. It will take effect on January 1, 2023.

SACRAMENTO - Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 467. SB 467, the End Wrongful Convictions Act, amends the standards used for evaluating expert testimony and forensics in court post-conviction. This law will take effect on January 1, 2023..

SACRAMENTO – Continuing his streak of passing meaningful laws addressing California’s most pressing issues, Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, concluded the 2022 legislative session with 19 bills signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom – the most by any single state lawmaker this year.

Governor Signs Three Bills Authored by Senator Cortese Focused on Student & Youth Wellness
Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law three bills authored by Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose) centered around educational and social support systems to serve our younger generation:
·      SB 692 – The Special Education Inclusion Act

SACRAMENTO – Improved gun safety, reduced energy costs, better mental and physical health for unhoused individuals and expanded ways to fight climate change are among the proposals Sen. Bob Hertzberg authored that Gov. Newsom has signed in 2022.

Other successful key measures this year by the San Fernando Valley Democrat include toughening indoor water-quality standards and promoting ways low-income residents can obtain health coverage.
