SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, was sworn in to office today after winning his second four-year term and announced new legislation to improve conditions in California during wildfire-related utility power shutoffs such as those this fall from PG&E.

State Senators Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, and Steven Bradford, D-Gardena, announced today that they will introduce legislation to bolster their groundbreaking 2019 law, SB 206, the Fair Pay to Play Act. The new bill is aimed at ensuring that college athletes’ rights are fully protected, and it would move up the implementation date of SB 206 to coincide with the NCAA’s recently proposed rule changes or no later than Jan. 1, 2022.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) released a statement today regarding sexual assault allegations against former Assemblymember Bill Brough (R-Dana Point):

“I was shocked to hear of the horrific allegations. As a domestic violence survivor and advocate, I have always praised and supported victims speaking out and seeking justice. I know how personal and invasive going public can be. This type of behavior is wrong, and these allegations must be thoroughly investigated.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D – Orange County) announced plans to introduce a bill that would provide relief to businesses heavily impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and subsequent Stay at Home Orders. Businesses who have been forced to operate at a diminished capacity, or oftentimes shut down entirely, have compounded their sacrifices by also continuing to dutifully pay their state and local mandated operating fees. This proposed legislation would alleviate these state and local fee obligations to heavily impacted businesses.

SACRAMENTO ­– Yesterday, Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) issued this statement in response to Congresswoman Maxine Waters’ formal request for U.S. Attorney General Barr to investigate the killing of 18-year-old Andres Guardado by a sheriff’s deputy near Gardena as a civil rights violation.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Tom Umberg (D-Orange County), and the California State Senate, announced that the Power of One Foundation, and Executive Director Andre Roberson, have been honored as the 34th Senate District 2020 Nonprofit of the Year Award. Since they began in 2019, the Power of One Foundation has worked tirelessly to help feed 1.7 million individuals, and they continue to expand their operation to help more people in the state of California.

Sacramento, Calif. – Today, Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D- Long Beach) will hold a virtual press conference at 10:00 a.m. to highlight “Broadband for All”, a bold legislative proposal she will be introducing on Monday, December 7th for the new 2020-2021 legislative session. Senator Gonzalez’s “Broadband for All” bill will generate upwards of $1 billion in funds needed to deploy high quality broadband infrastructure to end the inequity California low income, rural, urban families and minorities face in work, education and healthcare due to lack of internet access.
