SACRAMENTO – Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed into law a bill co-authored by Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that requires the California Attorney General to investigate police killings of unarmed civilians, removing the duty from local officials.

Sacramento, CA – A bill to ban dangerous chemicals was signed into law yesterday in California.

SACRAMENTO ­– Today Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 203, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), which prevents youth, up to age 17, from being interrogated prior to being held in custody and before waiving their Miranda rights without consulting with legal counsel.

SACRAMENTO ­– Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 1244, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena). This bill authorizes state-licensed cannabis laboratories to test samples of cannabis or cannabis products for a state or local regulatory, law enforcement, or prosecuting agency. SB 1244 was sponsored by Los Angles City Attorney Mike Feuer.

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today signed important legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will require companies selling beauty or personal care products in California to report the presence of hazardous fragrance and flavor ingredients in their products to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Safe Cosmetics Program.  This information would then be publicly available through CDPH’s Safe Cosmetics Database.

SACRAMENTO, CA – As President Trump asks the Supreme Court to strike down the entire Affordable Care Act (ACA), and as it’s more in peril than ever following Trump’s Supreme Court nominee to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Senate Bill 406 by Dr. Richard Pan, which includes putting two Affordable Care Act (ACA) patient protections into state law, was signed by the Governor.

SACRAMENTO – Medically vulnerable Californians will be eligible for discounted electricity rates and early notification of public safety power shutoff (PSPS) and rolling blackout events now that SB 596 by Senator Henry Stern (D-Los Angeles) has been signed into law.

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to streamline the residential insurance claims process for victims of disasters including wildfires.

“Wildfires are causing incredible hardship and the last thing anyone needs is to be jerked around by their insurance company,” Sen. Dodd said. “In the future, when someone files a claim they won’t be buried under mountains of paperwork or suffer unnecessary delay. That isn’t right and this new law will put a stop to it. I thank Gov. Newsom for helping us make this important change.”

SACRAMENTO – With record wildfires driving tens of thousands of Californians from their homes, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that would aid in evacuations by authorizing municipalities to use European-style “hi-lo” siren in emergency vehicles.

Leyva (D-Chino), which would ensure California is ready on day one of a future pandemic or other public health crises with a strong stockpile of personal protective equipment (PPE), was signed by the Governor today.
