SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bob Hertzberg of Van Nuys issued the following statement after Gov. Newsom today signed three bills to help protect California water for generations, highlighted by Senate Bill 1157, Urban Water Use, a statewide plan for more efficient water-conservation standards.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Governor Gavin Newsom today signed a bill by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that targets help for domestic violence survivors, unaccompanied women, and other vulnerable populations who are experiencing homelessness.

SACRAMENTO – Letting affordable housing developers spend more money building houses instead of holding dollars back to fund a rarely used reserve account is the goal of SB 948 by Senator Josh Becker (D-Peninsula), which was signed into law today by Governor Gavin Newsom.

SACRAMENTO — Senator Bob Wieckowski’s (D-Fremont) last accessory dwelling unit (ADU) bill, SB 897, was signed into law today by Governor Gavin Newsom, giving homeowners more flexibility with height restrictions and speeding up the permitting process. ADUs have surged in popularity since Wieckowski passed his first bill in 2016 eliminating parking restrictions tied to the units.

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today signed legislation by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that would require at least one mobilehome park manager per park to be trained and certified on the mobilehome rules and regulations of managing mobilehome parks and manufactured home communities.  In consultation with the California Department of Consumer Affairs, the California Department of Housing and Community Development would be responsible for developing the training and enforcing the certification requirements.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 959, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), was signed into law today by Governor Newsom.  With the SR 710 freeway gap between Alhambra and Pasadena no longer on the table, the City of Pasadena expressed a need for legislative changes to the current property sales process.

Sacramento, CA – Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill 1207, a measure authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) which improves maternal mental health support by providing women with outreach services, education and access to mental health treatment.  SB 1207 was supported by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists District IX (ACOG), Association of California Health Districts, California Catholic Conference and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 1016, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino, (D – Burbank) was signed into law by Governor Newsom.  The measure will enhance special education services for students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). 

Today Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Senator Dave Cortese’s Senate Bill 649, enabling cities to use local tenant preferences to help stabilize neighborhoods and prevent people from being uprooted from their homes and families. With communities suffering the impacts of the housing crisis, this bill will help cities prioritize efficient use of scarce affordable housing resources to protect vulnerable residents at risk of displacement. SB 649 is sponsored by the City of San Jose, the Housing Action Coalition, and SOMOS Mayfair.
