Senator Portantino Seeks to Help Glendale Free up $27 million Dollars for Affordable Housing Mayor Najarian Testifies in Senate Committee

Sacramento, California – Today, SB 532, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), passed the Senate Government and Finance Committee. Senator Portantino introduced SB 532 at the request of the City of Glendale, to help free up $27 million dollars of dormant Redevelopment bonds for use to build affordable housing.  Mayor Ara Najarian and Director of Community Development Philip Lanzafame flew to Sacramento to offer testimony on behalf of the effort.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Senate Education Committee last week passed SB 478, SB 594, SB 614, and SB 777, all of which were authored by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park).

On April 11, Senator Melissa Hurtado requested a onetime investment of $4.7 million for the California Immigrant Justice Fellowship program. The appropriation of funds is a direct investment in a legal fellows program that leverages the legal expertise of established service providers as a training ground for new attorneys, before they are placed with organizations in the most underserved regions in California, with ongoing mentorship and technical assistance.

New Statewide Poll Shows Majority of Californians Support Senator Wiener’s SB 50, the More HOMES Act

San Francisco – A new statewide poll conducted by Change Research shows that sixty-one percent of California voters support Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) SB 50, the More HOMES Act. SB 50 eliminates hyper-low-density zoning near public transit and job centers, thus legalizing apartment buildings and affordable housing in these locations so that more people can live near transit and near where they work.

Great Redwood Trail budget approved by legislative committees, and NCRA settles bitter EIR lawsuit

Sacramento, CA – It has been a week of great news for The Great Redwood Trail which will stretch through California’s rugged North Coast.  

Both the Senate and Assembly Budget Subcommittees on Resources and Transportation approved the Governor’s request for $3 million dollars to carry out the next steps outlined in Senator McGuire’s landmark legislation SB 1029. And separately the North Coast Railroad Authority’s (NCRA) Board of Directors approved a legal settlement, bringing an end to a near decade old bitter fight over their EIR.
