Sacramento – California state senators unveiled new legislation to strengthen California’s leadership in clean energy and combating climate change today at the state Capitol.  The proposals call for new benchmarks for energy efficiency, pollution reduction and petroleum use.

(Sacramento, CA)– State Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) introduced a bill that calls for the creation of the Committee on Maximizing Jobs and Economic Development.  The Committee would advise state agencies on the most effective way to implement clean energy policies while creating more employment opportunities across the state.

Senate & Assembly Joint Hearing:

Law Enforcement and Community Trust in California

Sacramento – The Senate and Assembly Public Safety Committees will hold a joint hearing on Tuesday, February 10th on police and community relations in California. 

The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Room 4203 of the State Capitol.  It is expected to be broadcast live on the California Channel and audio of the proceedings will be streamed on the State Senate’s website.

An agenda and list of witnesses is attached.

I would like to inform my constituents that the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the eastbound and westbound #1 (left) lane on State Route 12 at Potato Slough for bridge work.

Work will begin on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, through Thursday, February 12, 2015, from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 10 minute delays.  Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

SACRAMENTO –Serial sexual predators will no longer be able to slither through a loophole in California’s penal code to escape punishment under a proposal introduced Wednesday by Senator Jim Beall.Beall’s Senate Bill 164 restores the intent of California’s “One Strike Law” by  tightening a section of the code so that a conviction on a previously undiscovered sex crime will be considered as a “second strike’’ that can be used to put away serial sex offenders for 25 years to life, depending on aggravating circumstances.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today jointly authored the Career and Job Skills Education Act with Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg).
SB 148 appropriates $600 million to a Career Technical Education (CTE) incentive grant program for local school districts.  Strong performance standards and oversight measures in the legislation will ensure direct investments in important CTE programs throughout California.  SB 148 builds upon the CTE incentive matching grant program proposed in Governor Jerry Brown’s 2015-16 budget.
