SONOMA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, will host a virtual town hall Nov. 10 on what California and the nation can expect over the next four years in the areas of policy, law, the economy, public health and other crucial areas. The senator will convene a panel of experts, and answer questions from listeners via email and phone.

The town hall will be streamed live over multiple channels and broadcast on KSVY.

National City, CA – Samahan Health Centers, a multi-service health center, has been selected as Nonprofit of the Year for California’s 40th Senate District. Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) nominated the organization for the fifth annual California Nonprofit of the Year awards, being celebrated virtually this year.

Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) and Burbank City Manager Justin Hess were recognized over the weekend by Family Service Agency of Burbank with the Mary Alice O’Connor Vision Award. 

SAN DIEGO, CA– State Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) has announced the selection of Serving Seniors, a San Diego-based nonprofit committed to providing low-income and homeless seniors with wraparound services, as the 2020 Nonprofit of the Year for Senate District 39.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, Senator Atkins will make her formal announcement virtually during the organization’s October 27 Board Meeting.

Sacramento, Calif. - Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D- Long Beach) chair of the Senate Special Committee on Pandemic Emergency Response and Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) chair of the Senate Education Committee will co-chair a joint oversight hearing on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 1:00pm. This oversight hearing will examine the level and quality of access that students in California have had to distance learning instruction, as well as whether they have had access to fast and reliable internet during the COVID-19 pandemic.

La Cañada Flintridge, California – Please join an outstanding panel of mental health experts, student advocates and Senator Portantino for a robust and sensitive discussion on youth mental health during COVID-19.  Join the conversation and hear the results of a 200 student servey on their experiences during the pandemic.  Topics include how our youth are handling isolation, separation from peers, distance learning, and overall frustrations.  The survey was designed, created, and will be presented by Audrey Melillo and Sudi Feng, La Cañada high school studen

OCTOBER 22, 2020 – IRVINE, CALIFORNIA – Arts Orange County, the nonprofit official local arts agency and State-Local Partner for the County of Orange, has awarded grants to eight (8) local arts programs that primarily serve communities of color. This program is funded by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the California Arts Council, a state agency.

SACRAMENTO – With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to adversely impact Californians, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) and Senator Holly J. Mitchell (D-Los Angeles) praised a collaborative solution reached by the Joint Legislative Budget Committee and the Governor’s Office to allocate $400 million in funding for Project Homekey and legislative COVID-19 priorities, including child care, food banks, and diaper banks.
