Governor Newsom signed SB 1409 (Caballero), which requires the Franchise Tax Board to issue a plan to increase the claims of the California and federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), including alternative filing systems to help low-income families that currently miss out on the credit.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement as the California Department of Housing and Community Development announced that San Francisco would receive $44,840,003 in grant funding to create permanent housing for for those experiencing homelessness or at-risk of experiencing homelessness. This funding will allow the city of San Francisco to acquire a hotel and convert it into 232 units of permanent housing for some of the most at-risk individuals in our community.

Cracking Down on Vote-By-Mail Misinformation

SACRAMENTO – As a record number of voters in California and across the nation prepare to cast vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots in the November 3, 2020, General Election, the amount of mis-information about people’s VBM rights also appears to be at an all-time high.  Putting an end to that misinformation – and prosecuting people who intentionally attempt to suppress the rights of VBM voters – is the goal of SB 739 (Stern), which has been signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom and will take effect immediately.

My heart breaks for Very Reverend Father Smpad Saboundjian, the entire St. Gregory the Illuminator congregation and the greater Armenian American community for this unnecessary act of intimidation. I fully encourage the San Francisco Police Department’s investigation to swiftly determine the cause of the blaze and hold those responsible strictly accountable under the law.

Bill Dodd, D-Napa, Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles and Assemblymember Autumn Burke, D- Inglewood, to expand the role of certified nurse-midwives across California.

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) tonight praised Governor Gavin Newsom for signing a major increase in the state’s outdated homestead exemption law that will boost the amount of equity protected from creditors and prevent more homeowners from losing their residences in bankruptcy cases.  AB 1885, a budget trailer bill, puts California more in line with other states that have strong homestead exemption laws.
