Stern Bill to Combat Vote-By-Mail Misinformation Heads to Governor’s Desk

SACRAMENTO – Making sure people are penalized for intentionally spreading false and misleading information about every Californian’s right to receive and return a vote-by-mail ballot is the goal of SB 739 (Stern), which was sent to the Governor today after passing the Senate on a bi-partisan 32-0 vote early Tuesday morning.  The bill passed the Assembly on a bi-partisan 72-1 vote on Sunday night.

Legislature Approves Sen. Dodd’s Maternity Care Access & Equity Plan

SACRAMENTO – Heeding the call for greater access to maternity care, especially for women of color, the Legislature late Monday approved a bill from Sens. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, Holly Mitchell, D-Los Angeles and Assemblymember Autumn Burke, D- Inglewood, to expand the role of nurse-midwives across California. Senate Bill 1237, sponsored by the California Nurse-Midwives Association and Black Women for Wellness, heads next to Gov. Gavin Newsom for a signature.

SB-803 Peer Support Specialist Certification and Peer Support Services, is on its way to the Governors Desk

Sacramento, CA – Tonight the California Senate voted to pass SB 803 (Beall, D- San Jose), which establishes statewide peer support training and certification standards to bill for peer support services allowing counties to draw down millions in federal funding. Right now, there are thirty-four counties currently operating peer programs outside of their Medi-Cal program that would be able to take advantage of reimbursements from federal funds.

Legislature Passes Senator Beall’s Bill to Increase Housing and Protect Open Space in the City of San Jose (SB 940)

Sacramento, CA - Senator Beall’s legislation authorizing the City of San Jose to make zoning changes that will increase housing construction and protect open space, Senate Bill 940 (SB 940), passed the Legislature today. SB 940 allows the City to proactively increase housing capacity in the urban core and simultaneously protect open space outside of the urban growth boundary. This legislation will boost high capacity housing production and mitigate future wildfire risk by reducing urban sprawl and protecting open space — both key steps in addressing our climate and housing crises.

The California Legislature on Monday approved SB 1064, a bill by Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, that would eliminate the use of uncorroborated allegations from in-custody informants and prevent such allegations from being the basis for denying parole to an incarcerated individual.
