SACRAMENTO ­ – Increasing threats posed by climate change, including sea level rise, diminished snow pack, longer fire seasons, rising temperatures and the spread of vector-borne diseases into new habitats, are having a profound impact on all areas of California.  The state has sought to aggressively fight climate change and become more resilient to protect the health and safety of California lives and livelihoods.

Sacramento, CA – Six months after the North Bay Fire Storm, landmark legislation setting statewide emergency alert protocols was approved in its first official Senate Committee Hearing today.

Bill also increases transparency on unlicensed sober living homes

SACRAMENTO – On Wednesday, April 11, Senate Bill 992, which requires more oversight for licensed substance use disorder treatment facilities and brings transparency to unlicensed recovery homes, will be heard in the Senate Health Committee.

California has the responsibility to treat and protect individuals with substance use disorders.

Sacramento –  Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced amendments to Senate Bill 827, which allows for more housing near public transportation. These amendments were made in consultation with colleagues, advocates, local elected officials, and housing experts.

The state Senate passed a bipartisan resolution Monday by Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa, recognizing the 50th anniversary of the creation of Napa County’s Agricultural Preserve, the landmark law to protect farmland that was the first of its kind in the nation.

Napa County supervisors adopted the preserve on April 6, 1968, in part to guard the region’s grape-growing heritage against unchecked development and urban sprawl happening elsewhere in the Bay Area. The measure was strengthened by voters in 2008, extending protections to 2058.

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Emeritus Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) and fifteen of his Senate colleagues sent a letter today urging U.S. EPA Director Scott Pruitt to keep existing federal clean car standards in place.  This comes on the heels of Pruitt’s threats last week to pull regulations that are critical to advancing California’s climate and clean air objectives.
