Sacramento, CA – As the Chair of Budget Subcommittee on Education, Senator Anthony J. Portantino is proud to announce that the 2017-2018 budget prioritizes public education, adding nearly $3 billion to fund education in California. This unprecedented increase will raise per pupil spending to over $11,000 per year – the highest amount in California history.

On Thursday, the California Legislature voted on the final budget bill, which included a total of $74.5 billion for education.

Senator Richard Pan supported passage of resolutions at American Medical Association annual meeting in Chicago

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) praised fellow Senator Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) for joining other physicians to support passage of resolutions at the American Medical Association annual meeting Chicago on June 12 that affirm the duty to care for patients regardless of their immigration status.

SACRAMENTO – Legislation by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, clarifying the definition of stormwater so that projects designed to capture and clean stormwater can be more easily financed and built by local agencies today passed the Assembly Local Government Committee.

SACRAMENTO – The Prime Time Primary Act, authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) and sponsored by Secretary of State Alex Padilla, was passed by the State Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting today on a 4-1 vote. 

The Prime Time Primary Act, Senate Bill 568, seeks to shift the state's presidential primary from near last to one of the first in the nation.
