Sacramento –  Today the Senate approved Senator Scott Wiener’s Senate Bill 35 – which will create a streamlined approval process for housing in cities that are not meeting their housing goals required by the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA). This streamlining will expedite the construction of critically needed housing. SB 35 was approved by a vote of 25-12, receiving support from both Democrats and Republicans, including from co-authors Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica), and Andy Vidak (R-Hanford.)

California Presidential Tax Transparency Bill Approved in Senate

Senate passes Wieckowski bill to stop corporations from writing off punitive damages on their taxes

Sacramento – Corporations that break the law and are ordered by a jury to pay punitive damages for their outrageous misdeeds will no longer have the ability to write off such penalties on their state tax returns if a bill by State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) becomes law.  Wieckowski’s SB 66 passed the Senate tonight and now heads to the Assembly.

Senate passes Wieckowski bill to protect political free speech rights of HOA residents

Sacramento – The California Senate tonight approved a bill by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to enhance protection of political free speech rights for residents living in the state’s 52,000 common interest developments and 5,000 mobile home parks.  SB 407 targets abusive practices that curtail the residents’ abilities to assemble and communicate on political issues.  It was approved without opposition and now heads to the Assembly.
