Senate Passes Atkins’ Bill to Strengthen Firefighter Labor Rights

The California Senate today passed SB 548, legislation by Sen. Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) that will allow local firefighters to take claims of unfair labor practices to court if the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB) is unable to rule on their grievances within 150 days or opts not to issue a decision. The vote was 30-4.

Assembly Approves Measure to Restore Funding to Riverside County’s Four Newest Cities

May 4, 2017

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Senate Bill 130, which restores critical funding for the newly incorporated cities of Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Menifee and Wildomar, was approved by the California State Assembly on a bipartisan vote of 72-1.

Each of these cities incorporated prior to the passage of Senate Bill 89 (2011), which was one of the steps the Legislature took to close the State’s massive budget gap. SB 89 resulted in cities which had incorporated after 2004 losing critical public safety and municipal services funding that had previously been allocated to newly incorporated cities.

Women's Caucus Decries Vote to Gut Planned Parenthood from Healthcare Law

Following  a vote today by the U.S. House of Representatives today  on Trumpcare (H.R. 1628) —the American Health Care Act—the California Legislative Women’s Caucus called upon its colleagues in Washington to protect women’s access to essential healthcare.  Current versions of the legislation produced at the 11th hour would eviscerate funding for Planned Parenthood, jeopardizing the healthcare of women and rolling back women’s rights for decades.   The bill will next be heard in the U.S. Senate.

Senator Newman’s Board Attendance Measure Moves Ahead with Unanimous Bipartisan Support

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –Senate Bill (SB) 715, an accountability measure that would specify the criterion for removal of board members from state regulatory boards authored by Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), passed the Senate today with bipartisan unanimous support. SB 715 would add failure to attend scheduled meetings to the list of reasons for which the Governor may remove one of his or her appointed board members from office.
