SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles), author of California’s Secure Choice Retirement Savings program (SB 1234), issued the following statement on the U.S. Senate’s approval today of a resolution aimed at eliminating state retirement programs for private sector workers.

A bill by Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) to protect victims of mass fraud and identity theft cleared a key vote today in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Dodd’s bill was introduced in response to the recent Wells Fargo scandal where millions of accounts were fraudulently opened without consent, using consumer’s personal information from existing accounts. The legislation, co-sponsored by California State Treasurer John Chiang, would give victims their day in court by preventing financial institutions from using forced arbitration clauses in cases where they perpetrated fraud.

Sacramento –  Today the Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) that will help create more impartial juries by better identifying bias in the civil jury selection process. SB 658 will prevent unreasonable and arbitrary restrictions during voir dire by requiring judges to consider specific factors when setting time limits and types of questions.  SB 658 is sponsored by the Consumer Attorneys of California and supported by the American Civil Liberties Union.

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) on Tuesday introduced Senate Bill 100, The California Clean Energy Act of 2017, which puts the state on the path to 100 percent clean, renewable energy by 2045.

SACRAMENTO – Last Friday State Senator Henry Stern, along with Senator Bob Hertzberg, and members of the Valley Economic Alliance, visited several local businesses throughout the San Fernando Valley to seek input about innovative ways to bring jobs to and elevate the economic vitality of the region.

The tour included stops at Aerojet, in Canoga Park; toy maker MGA Entertainment’s new campus in Chatsworth; Cal State University Northridge; Brent’s Deli in Northridge; and Bobrick Washroom Equipment Inc., in North Hollywood.

Sacramento – State Senators Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) and Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León today announced a new and improved Cap and Trade program to take effect in 2021 and maintain California’s global leadership in the fight against climate change. 

SB 775, which will be heard in the Senate Environmental Quality Committee on May 10, eliminates some of the key weaknesses of the existing system and puts Cap and Trade on solid ground through 2030.  The bill requires two-thirds support in the Legislature.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, the California State Senate passed Senate Bill (SB) 158 by Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel).  The bill will improve road safety by implementing new federal commercial truck driving regulations, as well as adding additional truck driver safety requirements.
