SACRAMENTO (April 26, 2017) -- Watch, listen to Sen. Holly J. Mitchell, chair of the Senate Committee, talk about Senate Bill 562 before it was approved by the Senate Health Committee on a 5-2 vote.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate today passed legislation by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, clarifying the definition of stormwater so that projects designed to capture and clean stormwater can be more easily financed and built by local agencies.

Sacramento – The Senate Health Committee today approved a bill by Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) to direct a state agency to review scientific literature on the risk synthetic food dyes pose to some children and what steps, if any, the state should take to protect the public health.  Longstanding health concerns about food dyes have led to warning labels on most dyed foods in Europe and many companies are removing dyes from their products.

Sacramento –  Today the Senate Governance and Finance Committee approved Senator Scott Wiener’s Senate Bill 35 – which will create a streamlined approval process for housing when cities are not meeting the housing creation goals required by the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA). This will expedite the construction of affordable housing. SB 35 has already been approved by the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee. 

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 42 passed the California State Senate today with unanimous support. SCR 42 commemorates the month of April as “Arab American Heritage Month” in California, and recognizes the important contributions of Arab Americans to our state.

Sacramento –  Today, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) released the following statement about the proposed repeal of the federal estate tax by President Donald Trump, and the need to replace this cut with a California Estate Tax:
