Senator Wiener’s Solar Roofs Bill Passes out of Senate Committee

April 4, 2017

Sacramento –  Today the Senate Energy, Utilities, and Communications Committee approved a bill authored by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) to require solar panels to be installed on most new buildings in California.  SB 71 would make California the first state in the country to require solar installation on new construction.

Today, the Senate passed the California Values Act, which would curtail the use of local and state resources to fuel deportations.

Changes to Trump “Blind Trust” Underscore Need for Tax Return Transparency

Sacramento, CA – A new report from ProPublica has revealed that President Donald Trump quietly changed his “blind trust” arrangement to allow him to pull money from the trust at any time. This revelation highlights the need for tax return transparency.
California State Senator Mike McGuire and Senator Scott Wiener have authored legislation to require candidates for President to disclose five years of tax returns before being allowed on the California ballot. This bill cleared its first hurdle when it passed the Senate Judiciary Committee last week.

Senator Wiener’s Statement on Senate Passage of Immigrant Protection Bills

Sacramento –  Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) offered the following statement in support of the passage of Senate Bill 54, authored by Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de Leon (D- Los Angeles), and Senate Bill 6, authored by Senator Ben Hueso (D- San Diego). SB 54, which Senator Wiener is co-authoring, prevents local and state enforcement authorities from becoming arms of federal immigration authorities. SB 6 creates a state program to fund legal protections for people facing deportation.

Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) introduced SB 25 on the first day he assumed office.  This bill requests the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) to assess the integration of California’s K–14 schools, examine best practices education models used in Europe, and research expansion of concurrent enrollment programs to help formulate a new and updated education model for the 21st century.
