SACRAMENTO – Seeking to improve consumer protection for Californians, today State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) introduced legislation to license the debt collection industry, an industry that generates nearly a third of all complaints to the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  SB 908 would require that debt collectors and buyers obtain a license from the state Department of Business Oversight (DBO) to collect on debts in the state.

Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D–La Cañada Flintridge) has introduced SB 914 which seeks to address gun control issues which came to light after the horrific and tragic synagogue shooting in Poway. 

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, introduced wildfire-inspired legislation today to improve emergency evacuations and public safety. The bill would authorize municipalities across the state to use European-style “hi-lo” sirens in emergency vehicles to alert people of evacuations.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Senate Rules Committee approved the reauthorization of the seven-member Select Committee on Ports & Goods Movement, naming Sen. Lena Gonzalez (D- Long Beach) as Chair.

On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, a Delta Airlines airplane making an emergency return to Los Angeles International Airport dumped fuel onto several schools, parks, and neighboring communities in the Southeast, including Cudahy and South Gate. Approximately 67 children and adults were treated for health-related ailments.
