SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 955, a bill by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) requiring middle and high school students (6th – 12th grade) to be allowed one excused school-day length absence to participate in a civic activity such as public commenting, candidate speeches, political or civic forums, and town halls.

Leyva Bill Empowering Sexual Assault Survivors Signed Into Law

SACRAMENTO – After earning unanimous support in the Legislature, Governor Gavin Newsom today signed Senate Bill 916 by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino), which will empower survivors with critical information following a sexual assault.  By providing them with this information, survivors will be able to make informed decisions regarding steps they wish to take, or not, in the post-assault process.

Senator Leyva’s Mobilehome Park Manager Training Legislation Signed Into Law

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today signed legislation by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that would require at least one mobilehome park manager per park to be trained and certified on the mobilehome rules and regulations of managing mobilehome parks and manufactured home communities.  In consultation with the California Department of Consumer Affairs, the California Department of Housing and Community Development would be responsible for developing the training and enforcing the certification requirements.

Leyva Bill Restoring Salary Steps for CSU Employees Moves to Governor’s Desk

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the Legislature approved Senate Bill 410 by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will require the California State University (CSU) to implement a nine-step merit salary system for all California State University non-faculty staff employees, many of whom are the lowest-paid employees at the university system—such as custodians and groundskeepers.  This legislation will provide parity with California’s other 233 state agencies and over 210,000 state employees.
