Leyva Bill Protecting Retirement Security for California’s Public Servants Signed Into Law

SACRAMENTO – After receiving strong bipartisan support in the Legislature, Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation earlier today authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will protect a retiree’s promised and paid for collectively bargained benefits in cases where the benefit is reduced during retirement because of incorrectly reported information by the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) employer.

Senator Leyva Urges Governor to Sign “Cleaner and Greener Trucks” Bill

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the California State Senate gave final legislative approval to Senate Bill 372 by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino), an important bill that will reduce air pollution and maximize funding and deployment of zero emission vehicles in California.  Now proceeding to the Governor’s desk for consideration, SB 372—also known as the “Cleaner and Greener Trucks” bill—will create an innovative state program that will design new financing tools to help owners of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles purchase cleaner zero-emission alternatives.

Legislature Approves Leyva Bill Requiring Online Portal for Rape Survivors to Track Their Rape Kits

SACRAMENTO – After not receiving a single ‘No’ vote throughout its legislative journey, legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that will require the addition of a new online portal to California’s existing rape kit tracking system to allow survivors of sexual assault to privately and electronically track and receive updates regarding the status, location and information regarding their rape kit passed from the California State Assembly today and now advances to the Governor for his consideration.

Senator Leyva’s “Silenced No More Act” Clears Final Legislative Hurdle and Advances to Governor’s Desk

Leyva (D-Chino) that would build upon current protections against secret settlements to now cover settlement agreements involving all forms of harassment or discrimination.  Following today’s action, SB 331 now advances to the Governor for his consideration.

Assembly Health Committee Approves Leyva Bill Expanding Access to Birth Control in California

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Health Committee passed Senate Bill 523 authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) earlier today, taking California one step closer to creating greater contraceptive equity statewide. If enacted, SB 523 will expand and modernize birth control access in California regardless of an individual’s gender, insurance coverage status, where they work or where they go to school.
