State Senator Jerry Hill has introduced legislation to help prevent excavators from striking underground natural gas pipelines, telecommunications cabling, electrical lines, water mains and other underground infrastructure. SB 865 is aimed at preventing dangerous "dig ins" with more training, increased communication.

Senator Jerry Hill, as chair of the Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee, will hold an informational hearing on the impacts of legalized cannabis for adults on employment and the workplace. Stakeholders from the cannabis industry, labor and the employer community have been invited to participate.

State Senator Jerry Hill, as chair of the Subcommittee on Gas, Electric and Transportation Safety, and Senator Steven Glazer, as chair of the Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development, will hold a hearing in the Capitol on Friday on progress made by the California Underground Facilities Safe Excavation Board, better known as the Dig Safe Board, as it approaches its third year in operation.

Starting January 1, hospitals, clinics and other health facilities must report allegations of patient sexual abuse and other sexual misconduct by medical professionals to the appropriate state licensing authorities within 15 days of receiving a written complaint from the patient, under legislation signed by Governor Newsom. “The signing of Senate Bill 425 closes the reporting gaps that can keep regulators in the dark for years while shielding bad actors,” said Senator Jerry Hill, who authored the legislation.

The bill is a boon for parents of severely disabled students who rely on medicinal cannabis to attend school. SB 223 enables parents to administer their child’s dose on K-12 campuses under strict rules and conditions as long as their school district allows it. The governor also several other bills by Senator Hill in recent days.

"Governor Newsom recognizes that safety is a fundamental requirement for the utilities that serve California, as his signing of 22 bills that build on his Strike Force report shows," Senator Hill said. "I am grateful for the Governor’s and the Legislature’s support of my SB 550. Safety must be integral to any merger, acquisition or change of control involving major electric or gas companies; and in sales of public utility assets, the impacts to ratepayers and the workforce must be considered as well.
