Sacramento, California – Senate Bills 715 and 387, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), were approved this week by the Senate Public Safety Committee. SB 715 addresses the validity of a hunting license and independent review of gun possession disputes. SB 387 is aimed at improving community policing and public safety outcomes through an appropriate curriculum requirement for police officers.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 457, a measure introduced by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Canada-Flintridge) and Senator Scott Wilk (R – Santa Clarita), passed the Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee today. SB 457 requires the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) and the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS) Boards of Administration to allow school districts and cities to opt out of investment vehicles issued or owned by the Republic of Turkey.

The California Armenian Legislative Caucus is holding two scholarship contests for the 2021 commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. California high school students in 9th through 12th grade are invited to participate in an essay contest and/or a visual arts contest to increase greater awareness of the Armenian Genocide on its anniversary.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 45,  a measure authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Canada) that provides critical investments to help California become more resilient to climate change, passed the Senate Natural Resources Committee today. Senators Allen, Hurtado, and Stern are joint authors of the bill. SB 45 will be amended to include Senator Rubio as a joint author, Senator Hertzberg as principal co-author, and Senators Dodd, Archuleta, Gonzalez, Glazer, and Cortese as co-authors.
