November Election Results Certified, Confirming Voter’s Choice Act Contributed to Record Votes Cast Despite Pandemic

Sacramento, CA – California’s chief elections officer published his official Statement of Vote on December 11, confirming an all-time record number of votes cast and especially high voter turnout and engagement, aided by Senator Allen's Voter’s Choice Act of 2016 (VCA). The VCA enabled county elections officials to implement more options for how and where to vote in the November 3 election, allowing every registered voter to receive a vote-by-mail ballot and switching neighborhood polling places to better-equipped vote centers.

Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Legislation Moves Forward in California Senate

May 26, 2020

Sacramento, CA – The work of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy preserving open space in the Santa Monica Mountains would be made easier with a bill that just passed the Senate Natural Resources Committee.

The legislation, proposed by Senator Ben Allen, would save the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) time and resources by cutting red tape and allowing for more direct coordination between Conservancy staff and property owners during land encroachment negotiations.

(Sacramento, CA) – President Trump on Thursday, taking another swipe at long-standing national environmental safeguards, signed an executive order asking federal agencies to waive required environmental reviews of infrastructure projects built during the COVID-19 induced economic downturn.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has also proposed changes to the way the agency assesses and enacts Clean Air Act regulations--in essence weakening future air pollution rules.
