Dr. Clarke has shown her commitment to the physical and emotional well-being of Napa Valley residents as physician-in-charge at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices in Napa and board member of Mentis, a nonprofit mental health group serving low-income families.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, released the following statement today on official efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus by limiting large public gatherings, social distancing and continued frequent hand-washing:

“We must follow the direction of experts at the California Department of Public Health, who have deemed it prudent for the time being to halt exposure to large groups of people,” Sen. Dodd said. “Our actions must be dictated by science and facts in order to limit the spread of this virus and ensure the public’s well-being.

Sen. Dodd Issues Statement on Horse Racing Board Report

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, released the following statement today regarding the report from the California Horse Racing Board on racing horse deaths at Santa Anita Park:

“The board issued a thorough investigative report that makes a number of key findings and recommendations,” Sen. Dodd said. “Ensuring safety is and must remain our top priority. Already, the board has adopted important changes. Where statutory authority is needed, I’ve introduced my own bill to reduce the risks to horses and jockeys.”

Sen. Dodd Helps Promote Free Tax Assistance, Credits

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, reminds taxpayers of two key benefits as they approach the April 15 deadline to file taxes:

Free preparation assistance is available from California’s Franchise Tax Board’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and a Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program to help individuals with limited incomes complete their tax returns.

Sen. Dodd: March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, today recognized the month of March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month in an effort to bring attention to gambling addiction and connect people with treatment.

“Problem gambling is not only an addiction but it’s also a serious public health concern,” Sen. Dodd said. “Awareness and access to services are critical for anyone struggling with addiction, and that includes those facing gambling problems. I hope to promote a better understanding of problem gambling and prompt people struggling with problem gambling to seek help.”

Sen. Dodd Issues Statement on Solano County Coronavirus Case

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, made the following statement today about a Solano County resident becoming the first person in the United States to contract novel coronavirus from an unknown source.

“I have been in contact with state and local public health officials who are taking every precaution to prevent the spread of this virus,” Sen. Dodd said. “We must take this situation seriously and monitor it closely. However, there is no cause for alarm or panic. People are not advised to change their daily routines.”

Sen. Dodd Introduces Maternity Care Proposal

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, and Assemblymember Autumn Burke, D- Inglewood, today announced legislation to improve access to high-quality maternity care in California.  The proposal, sponsored by the California Nurse-Midwives Association and Black Women for Wellness, also would curb disparities in outcomes for black women and infants and counter the obstetrician shortage – projected to be critical in some counties by 2025.
