SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, introduced a resolution today designating the week of Feb. 24 as Eating Disorder Awareness Week, bringing attention to a serious problem affecting 30 million Americans while underscoring the need for prevention.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, today announced new legislation to ensure critical facilities such as hospitals, fire stations and water treatment plants can operate during wildfire-inspired electric power shutoffs such as those used last year by Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

“Essential facilities must continue to function if PG&E again uses forced power shutoffs to avoid having its equipment spark fires,” Sen. Dodd said. “My bill is a commonsense measure that would allow the use of generators, ensuring the public is served and protected at the most critical time.”

“It’s no secret that going to college is expensive, but students shouldn’t have to starve to advance their education,” said Sen. Dodd, who introduced Senate Bill 1082 late Tuesday. “Unfortunately, chronic hunger is far too common on our campuses. My bill puts food on the table for those who are struggling, helping more Californians achieve their educational and career goals.”

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, introduced legislation today to increase conservation on California’s farms and ranches by offering incentives and technical assistance for adopting practices that protect wildlife and the environment.

“Rural landowners play a huge role in conservation and are critical to the economic vitality of our state,” Sen. Dodd said. “This bill would encourage farmers and ranchers to continue their stewardship, boosting the land’s resiliency and production. It’s an important step that will allow people and the environment to reap the benefits.”

“We must hold utilities accountable for operating safely and reliably by tying their compensation to achieving these goals,” Sen. Dodd said. “A performance-based model will discourage the type of reckless behavior responsible for devastating wildfires and power outages, while promoting responsible practices that have been sorely lacking. We need to be innovative to force accountability and achieve acceptable performance.”

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, introduced legislation today to allow UC Davis to sell wine made by viticulture and enology students, which would otherwise go to waste. The proceeds would generate funds for the university.

SACRAMENTO – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, introduced wildfire-inspired legislation today to improve emergency evacuations and public safety. The bill would authorize municipalities across the state to use European-style “hi-lo” sirens in emergency vehicles to alert people of evacuations.
