SAN FRANCISCO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced that he has obtained $19.8 million in state budget funds for local San Francisco needs. Senator Wiener championed these projects and investments for the community to improve city resources for low-income communities and communities of color. These funds will also support artists, science education, and local museums.

Senator Wiener obtained the following funding:

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1144, the Safe and Efficient Water Act, passed the Assembly Education Committee by a vote of 5-0. It will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. SB 1144 requires public and charter schools and state agencies to complete a water quality and efficiency assessment on their facilities. This bill ensures our public schools and state agencies have safe, drinkable water. Far too many school children and other California residents currently lack access to clean water.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to support entertainment venues, Senate Bill 793, passed the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization with a vote of 16-0.This legislation will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. 

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to improve health plan accountability, Senate Bill 858, passed the Assembly Health Committee by a vote of 11-2. SB 858 will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. SB 858, the Health Plan Accountability Act, updates and increases the penalty amount for health plans that violate state law in denying or delaying timely access to care.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to improve patient access to prescription medication, Senate Bill 853, passed the Assembly Health Committee in a bipartisan, unanimous vote. It will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 1186, which restores voter-created access to medicinal cannabis across the state by requiring cities to allow patients access to purchase legal medicinal cannabis by delivery, passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee by a vote of 9-2. It now heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SACRAMENTO –  Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblymember Matt Haney’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to allow – but not require – seven pilot cities to extend sales of alcohol at bars, nightclubs, and restaurants (but not liquor stores) to as late as 4am passed the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization by a vote of 12-3. It will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. 

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 964, the Behavioral Health Workforce Revitalization Act, passed the Assembly Higher Education Committee in an unanimous, bipartisan vote. It will now be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SB 964 increases California’s investment in its behavioral health workforce to retain workers, increase the size of the behavioral health workforce, and support behavioral health workers who are facing a significant increase in demand for services.
