SACRAMENTO, CA – In a unanimous and bipartisan vote today, the California State Senate passed a landmark bill by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that targets help for domestic violence survivors, unaccompanied women, and other vulnerable populations who are experiencing homelessness.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The State Assembly today passed Piqui’s Law, by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park), which mandates judges take training on domestic violence and child abuse to prioritize child safety in custody proceedings and clarifies California's ban on the use of dangerous reunification programs in family court.

SACRAMENTO, CA – California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a series of budget bills this week that included a proposal by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) to expand the eligibility for the Young Child Tax Credit and adjusts the credit for inflation to help struggling families and reduce poverty.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The State Assembly Judiciary today passed Senate Bill 616, Piqui’s Law, by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park), which mandates judicial training to ensure a child’s safety in custody proceedings.

SB 616, Piqui’s Law: Keeping Children Safe from Family Violence is named for a 5-year-old murdered by his father. The boy’s mother, Ana Estevez, fought in family court to protect her son against her ex-husband before Piqui’s death. The bill will align with federal provisions within the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in order to receive funding.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Assembly Education Committee today passed a mandatory kindergarten bill by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that will ensure all children receive critical instruction in their earliest years of learning.

SB 70 will require all students to complete one year in kindergarten before entering first grade to ensure children are prepared socially and academically before entering elementary school. Currently, parents are able to delay their child’s entrance into school until the first grade.
