Governor Signs Rubio Legislation Strengthening the Commission that Credentials California Teachers

SACRAMENTO, CA –Today, Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) announced that Governor Gavin Newsom signed her legislation to change the make-up of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), the body that oversees the credentialing of all teachers and certificated staff in the state’s public schools. Specifically, SB 478 mandates the CTC to include a certified human resource administrator in a public elementary or secondary school in California.

SACRAMENTO, CA – State Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) today issued the following statement in response to the United States Supreme Court’s decision to not include a citizenship question in the 2020 census.

"While the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision today on the census citizenship question was encouraging, the fight is not over,” Sen. Rubio said.  “We need to stay vigilant while getting everyone to complete their census forms.  We will continue to protect the privacy of our communities and ensure everyone is counted.”

Senator Rubio Passed Bill Provides Access To All Students In Transitional Kindergarten, Regardless Of Birthdate

April 10, 2019

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) announced today that her bill, SB 443, which would provide funding for all transitional kindergarten students regardless of birthdate, passed the Senate Education Committee 6-0.

“As a teacher, I noticed the difference between students who had participated in Transitional Kindergarten versus those students that went directly to kindergarten,” Rubio said. “There was clearly a positive educational effect on those students that participated in the TK program.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Senate Education Committee last week passed SB 478, SB 594, SB 614, and SB 777, all of which were authored by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park).
