Sacramento, CA – On May 7 at 3 p.m., Senator Susan Rubio, Blue Shield of California Foundation and the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (the Partnership) will convene a virtual policy briefing on an innovative homelessness prevention model, Domestic Violence Housing First (DVHF). Domestic violence is a significant driver of homelessness in California. In 2018, 10 percent of people experiencing homelessness during the one-night Point In Time count reported being victims of domestic violence.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) today introduced two education bills that will help younger students attain greater academic success as well as remove obstacles for parents to volunteer in the classroom.

Senate Bill 1153 will require kindergarten attendance as a requirement prior to entering the first grade with some exemptions. The second bill, SB 1176, will remove a financial burden from parent volunteers who want to participate at their children’s school but cannot afford fingerprinting fees.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) has introduced Senate Bill 1212, which will support the San Gabriel Valley’s regional efforts to address the homeless crisis and housing shortage by making changes to strengthen the San Gabriel Valley Regional Housing Trust.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) has introduced Senate Bill 1141, which will expand legal protections for survivors of domestic violence by criminalizing threats, humiliation, intimidation, and other coercive actions that are used to frighten and control a victim.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) today introduced Senate Bill 1035. The bill will create a targeted program, administered by the California Energy Commission, to assist low-income households who want to reduce their household carbon footprint by providing financial assistance.
 

“Access to healthcare is one of my top priorities,” Sen. Rubio said. “This program will help cancer patients receive critically needed medications. It would reduce costs, ensure timely access, and prevent unused medications from going to waste, all while protecting our medically fragile patients.”
