SACRAMENTO – Legislation establishing a tax credit for the preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings in California by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) was signed into law today by Governor Gavin Newsom, putting into statute a measure that will spark reinvestment in California’s communities.

“The mortgage crisis hit California homeowners as hard as anyone. Many of the state’s residents have yet to recover from losing their homes, and continue to feel the effects of the financial stress caused by unscrupulous lending practices. This bill will get direct relief and aid to residents struggling to stay in their homes.”

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) applauded the signing of key housing legislation today, which will help protect renters from indiscriminate evictions and exorbitant rate increases. Gov. Newsom also signed two Senate bills that expand discrimination protections for Californians receiving government assistance and for veterans or those who are currently serving the nation in the military.

Atkins (D-San Diego), Senator Steve Glazer (D-Contra Costa), Senate Select Committee on Student Success, Senator Connie Leyva (D-Chino), Chair of the Senate Education Committee, and Senator Richard Roth (D-Riverside) today applauded the Governor signing Assembly Bill 48, which the Legislature passed to place a $15 billion bond on the March 2020 ballot to fund new classrooms, labs, and libraries for California’s K-12 public schools and universities.

“Upon learning I would again be serving as Acting Governor, I contacted my closest advisors to determine a course of action. I immediately heard from Acting First Dog Joey, who, while initially grumpy upon learning that he had not actually remained First Dog since receiving the title in July 2014, was ultimately helpful — mainly in exchange for snacks.

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate closed the 2019 legislative session last week having approved significant initiatives that address the affordable housing crisis, help improve wildfire preparation and response, reform law enforcement’s use of force, protect women’s rights and aid workers in the new economy, while at the same time cutting taxes for working families and small business and helping more middle-class families afford health coverage.

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate on Friday passed amendments to the state budget that will generate $1.7 billion to fund Medi-Cal, create financing tools local municipalities can use for housing and infrastructure projects, ratify collective bargaining agreements with several of the state’s largest labor unions, and make important technical updates, such as allocating funds to keep patients and providers safe at health centers that provide abortion services.

Atkins’ Tax Credit for Historic Preservation Passes Assembly

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate has passed SB 451, legislation by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), to establish a tax credit for the preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings in California. SB 451 passed out of the Legislature unanimously.
