SACRAMENTO – Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) announced today she secured $63 million from the state budget that will be dedicated to Senate District 22 to create affordable housing, alleviate homelessness, help traumatized children, preserve an important, historic site, and build a new community center in the City of Alhambra. Since being elected in 2018, Senator Rubio has delivered more than $120 million for San Gabriel Valley communities for public safety, parks and open spaces, the arts, nonprofits, community centers, the environment, housing and homelessness initiatives.

Portantino Bills Clear Assembly Education Committee

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 941, 1302, 1255, and 1016, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), passed the Assembly Education Committee. SB 941 seeks to address teacher shortages and improve learning environments, while student wellness takes center stage in SB 1302. SB 1255 would reduce waste in schools through a dishwasher program and SB 1016 enhances special education services for individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Senator Wiener’s Legislation to Stop Cities from Banning Medical Cannabis Passes Assembly Judiciary Committee

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 1186, which restores voter-created access to medicinal cannabis across the state by requiring cities to allow patients access to purchase legal medicinal cannabis by delivery, passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee by a vote of 9-2. It now heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SACRAMENTO - Today, Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) legislation to improve health plan accountability, Senate Bill 858, passed the Assembly Health Committee by a vote of 11-2. SB 858 will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. SB 858, the Health Plan Accountability Act, updates and increases the penalty amount for health plans that violate state law in denying or delaying timely access to care.

Senator Wiener’s Legislation to Ensure Public Schools and State Agencies Have Safe Drinking Water Passes the Assembly Education Committee

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1144, the Safe and Efficient Water Act, passed the Assembly Education Committee by a vote of 5-0. It will now head to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. SB 1144 requires public and charter schools and state agencies to complete a water quality and efficiency assessment on their facilities. This bill ensures our public schools and state agencies have safe, drinkable water. Far too many school children and other California residents currently lack access to clean water.
