SACRAMENTO – Prioritizing the health and safety of mobile park residents across California, the California State Senate approved legislation by Senator Connie M.

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1067, introduced by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) would restrict parking minimums within close proximity to public transit.  Today, it passed the Senate Floor.  The bill is aimed at reducing California’s dependence on cars, provide more incentives for walking and bicycling, and help counteract housing affordability problems by cutting costs for tenants and developers.

SACRAMENTO – To deter public sector employers from purposely discouraging union activity, the California State Senate today passed legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) to impose penalties on those employers for unlawfully attempting to dissuade employees from joining or participating in a union.

SACRAMENTO – Highlighting the need to get more students involved in government and their

community by prioritizing student opportunities for civic learning and engagement, the California State Senate approved Senate Bill 955 by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) requiring middle and high school students (6th – 12th grade) to be allowed one excused school-day length absence to participate in a civic activity such as public commenting, permitted protesting, candidate speeches, political or civic forums, and town halls.

Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg of Van Nuys released the following statement Tuesday after the California Senate approved his legislation, SB 1327, to help end gun violence:

Sacramento, CA - Senate Bill 1327, a bill joint authored by Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) and Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) passed the Senate floor today.  SB 1327 is a major gun reform measure that offers a new tool to combat the rise in gun violence and save lives – a private right of action.  Governor Gavin Newsom is the official sponsor of the legislation.

SACRAMENTO, CA – In a unanimous and bipartisan vote today, the California State Senate passed a bill by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that targets help for domestic violence survivors, unaccompanied women, and transgendered individuals who are experiencing homelessness.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bill 830, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) would increase funding for K-12 schools by $3.4 billion.  It is a prudent funding formula reform that would base school budgeting on enrollment rather than attendance.  

SACRAMENTO, CA – In a bipartisan and unanimous vote today, the California Senate passed a bill by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that will expand the eligibility for the young child tax credit, which will help struggling families and reduce poverty. 

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 987, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) which addresses significant disparities in cancer patient access by expanding Medi-Cal patient eligibility for necessary clinical expertise and resources, passed the Senate Floor today.
