Senator Wiener’s Legislation to Stop Cities from Banning Medicinal Cannabis Passes Senate

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1186, which restores voter-created access to medicinal cannabis across the state by requiring cities to provide patients access to purchase medicinal cannabis by delivery, passed the Senate with a unanimous bipartisan vote. It now heads to the Assembly for policy hearings.

Senator Wiener’s Legislation to Protect Victims’ DNA Passes Senate

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Senate Bill 1228, the Genetic Privacy for Sexual Assault Victims Act, passed the Senate with a unanimous, bipartisan vote. It will now head to the Assembly for policy committee hearings. SB 1228 is sponsored by San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin, the Prosecutors Alliance of California, and Black Women Revolt, an anti-domestic violence advocacy and resource group for Black women.

Senator Wiener’s Transgender Inclusive Health Care Act Passes Senate

May 24, 2022

SACRAMENTO – Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 923, the TGI Inclusive Care Act passed the Senate by a vote of 28-6. It now heads to the Assembly for policy committee hearings.

This first-in-the-nation legislation will help create a more inclusive and culturally competent healthcare system for TGI (transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex) people in California by requiring:

-That physician Continuing Medical Education (CME) include evidence-based cultural competent studies to help physicians provide inclusive care for TGI people

Senate Leader Atkins’ Bills to Protect San Diego River Watershed, Military Families Pass Senate

SACRAMENTO – The California State Senate has passed two bills authored by Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) that will strengthen the San Diego region – SB 1027 to augment protection of the San Diego River watershed, and SB 1041, which would help military service members and families by making permanent a sales tax exemption for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
