Sacramento, CA – Senator Mike McGuire, Chair of the Senate Governance and Finance Committee, will hold a timely informational hearing on Wednesday, January 10 to discuss the significant  impacts the Federal Tax Bill, rushed through by Congress prior to the holidays, will have on California residents.

SACRAMENTO – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement today after the Trump Administration moved to terminate the temporary protected status of some 200,000 El Salvadoran immigrants living in the United States.

“Ripping hundreds of thousands of legal immigrants from their communities, families and children is foolish and immoral.  The Trump administration is pursuing an agenda of racial animus that divides America and makes us weaker.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) released this statement after the Department of Homeland Security announced it would revoke temporary protected status and end humanitarian immigration for 260,000 Salvadorans living in the U.S. since 2001.

“For decades, Republican and Democratic presidents have protected immigrants from countries hit by natural disaster or war. The Trump Administration’s repeal of humanitarian immigration for Salvadoran immigrants is its latest assault on American compassion.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a bill to provide universal preschool to all four year olds in the state of California.

“Adopting universal preschool is an investment in our future that will pay dividends for years to come, said Senator Dodd. “As a father and a grandfather, I know that there is no more precious resource than our young people. We need to step up our investment in the next generation. Universal preschool is absolutely essential for economic vitality and social mobility.”

Sacramento, CA – North Bay legislators officially introduced a bill that will set statewide emergency alert protocols following the devastating firestorm that ravaged Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino counties, destroying over 6,000 homes, scorching more than 170,000 acres, causing billions in damage and resulting in the death of more than 40 residents.

State Senator Jerry Hill, as chair of the Subcommittee on Gas, Electric and Transportation Safety, announced today that he will hold a hearing January 26 in Santa Rosa with North Bay Senators Bill Dodd and Mike McGuire and Assemblymembers Marc Levine and Jim Wood to examine utilities’ best practices to prevent and respond to wildfires.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) introduced a joint resolution this week calling on Congress to authorize a long-term extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The program provides insurance to 1.3 million California children and is set to expire by March.
