Governor Newsom Signs Senator Wiener’s Housing Density Legislation

SACRAMENTO - Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Senator Scott Wiener’s (D-San Francisco) Senate Bill 10. SB 10 creates a streamlined process for cities to zone for missing middle multi-unit housing in a streamlined manner, without having to go through often-years-long environmental reviews.

Gov. Newsom Signs SB 8, Extending the Housing Crisis Act

California Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed SB 8, legislation by Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, that extends the provisions of the Housing Crisis Act of 2019 until 2030, streamlining the creation of more housing throughout the state. Gov. Newsom signed SB 8 as part of a package of bills designed to boost the number of new housing units throughout California.

Sacramento – The California Legislature’s two leading members on election issues on Wednesday announced a coordinated effort to examine reforms to California’s recall election system.

Assembly member Marc Berman (D – Menlo Park) and Senator Steve Glazer (D – Contra Costa) said they are determined to fix a broken system in the wake of the 2021 gubernatorial recall election, which raised questions about whether a system designed in the early 20th century has enough checks and balances to ensure democratic and fair elections.
