Senator Wiener’s Housing Data Act Passes Legislature

SACRAMENTO - Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco)’s Housing Data Act, Senate Bill 477, passed the Assembly by a bipartisan vote of 71-1, and the Senate on a bipartisan concurrence vote of 37-0. SB 477 will now head to the Governor’s desk for final approval. This legislation is sponsored by California YIMBY and SPUR.

A secret new company is trying to ship toxic coal through the North Coast

North Coast, CA – The North Coast is facing one of the largest environmental threats in decades. A secret, clandestine operation – hiding behind an anonymous LLC out of Wyoming – wants to ship millions and millions of tons of coal from Montana, Utah and Wyoming through the Northern California counties of Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino, Trinity, and Humboldt. The shadowy rail operation would utilize a portion of the now defunct North Coast rail route, which runs approximately 320 miles between Marin and Humboldt counties.

Legislature OK’s SB 16 to Expand and Strengthen Access to Police Records

The California Legislature today approved SB 16, which will expand public access to police misconduct records and strengthen communities’ ability to hold law enforcement agencies accountable. The bill by state Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, opens access to records on officers who have engaged in biased or discriminatory behavior, conducted unlawful arrests or searches, or used force that is excessive or unreasonable.

SACRAMENTO – To ensure equity for civic education and leadership programs that have long limited full access and participation to young women, the California State Senate gave approval today to legislation authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) that seeks to end the unfair and discriminatory treatment of Girls State participants.  Following passage by the Legislature, Senate Bill 363 now advances to the Governor for consideration.
