Sacramento, Calif. – On July 13th, 2021 Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) released the following statement in response to the newly announced agreement reached by Legislative Leaders on the broadband trailer bill, AB/SB 156, that will expand 21st century high-speed broadband infrastructure to help close the digital divide and meet connectivity needs for more California businesses, individuals and families. 

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) has released the following statement on the budget signed by Governor Newsom today:

SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) today issued a statement regarding the 2021-22 state budget:

“After thoughtful and productive discussions on the final key details of the 2021-22 state budget, we are pleased to announce that SB 129, which provides the overall architecture of the budget agreement, will be signed today, with additional implementation bills to be voted on later this week. 

SACRAMENTO – Legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, to assist restaurants struggling to recover from the pandemic by making permanent a temporary order to allow the sale of to-go cocktails as part of take-out and delivery food orders cleared a key committee today.

“Allowing restaurants to sell carry-out cocktails has been a lifeline for an industry that is struggling to keep its doors open,” Sen. Dodd said. “My bill will help preserve jobs and get our economy back on track. Thanks to my Assembly colleagues for supporting this important proposal.”

Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) announced his Senate Bill (SB) 374, which adds “reproductive coercion” to the definition of domestic violence, passed the Assembly Floor today.

SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) today announced an agreement on a broadband trailer bill, AB/SB 156, to expand the state’s broadband fiber infrastructure and increase internet connectivity for families and businesses. 

NAPA – Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, announced today he has secured a $7.6 million budget allocation for Napa County to be used for investments in wildfire safety and prevention as well as drinking water infrastructure improvements at Lake Berryessa.

SACRAMENTO – In an unanimous, bipartisan vote, the California Legislature today passed a bill by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that would help protect farms unable to obtain insurance due to devastating wildfires. The Legislature added an urgency clause to Senate Bill 11, which if signed by the Governor, would make it effective immediately.

Sacramento, California – Senate Bills 14 and 224, authored by State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge), cleared the Assembly Education Committee this week with bipartisan support. SB 224 and 14 address the growing mental health crisis among California’s youth by implementing mental health education and strategies.

Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) today announced his first bill advanced out of the State Assembly, paving its way to the Governor’s desk for a signature.
