SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, the Assembly Public Safety Committee approved Senate Bill 299—also known as the “Equal Access for Victims of Police Violence Act”—authored by Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino), which will remove unjust barriers faced by victims of police violence and other violent crimes in accessing California’s Victim Compensation program.  The Victim Compensation program is an important pathway for survivors to access critical support, as it can cover specific expenses related to crime, such as medical bills, funeral and burial expenses, and counseling. 

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senate Bill 742 by Dr. Richard Pan to give local officials the tools they need to keep extremists from harassing and intimidating patients and front-line workers when getting vaccinated, passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee today. 

Sacramento, CA – Marin County’s Senator Mike McGuire successfully secured an additional $4 million in this year’s state budget to fill the vast majority of the funding gap needed to kick off the groundbreaking of the transformational veteran homeless housing community in Novato.

The Senate and Assembly have approved an operating budget that is now headed to the Governor’s desk. Once signed into law, this budget package represents California’s spending plan that will be in place for the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1.
The budget package totals $267.1 billion; $196.1 from the state’s General Fund, with total General Fund reserves at a record of $25.3 billion. Proposition 98 spending is also at a record $96.1 billion.

Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) announced today that his budget request for the City of Glendora was approved by the Legislature.  The 2021-2022 State Budget will include a one-time allocation of $1.5 million for the City of Glendora to retrofit historic streetlights.

Portantino (D – La Cañada Flintridge) announced today that his budget request to preserve the Rockhaven Sanitarium property in Glendale has been approved.  Under the Portantino proposal, the State will allocate the money to the City of Glendale to renovate and preserve the historic Rockhaven property for the public to enjoy and appreciate as a museum. 

SACRAMENTO, CA – Gov. Gavin Newsom today signed a bill by Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) that will allow the City of West Covina to utilize $3 million in existing city funds that have been unavailable due to restrictions for local infrastructure projects.

Leyva (D-Chino) that will require the addition of a new online portal to California’s existing rape kit tracking system to allow survivors of sexual assault to privately and electronically track and receive updates regarding the status, location and information regarding their rape kit passed from the Assembly Public Safety Committee earlier today.
